Carpolestids like C. simpsoni like have been placed among the plesiadapoids, in either Primates or Proprimates. Those that have excluded them from primates have done so because the brain is small, there is no postorbital bar, and the skeleton was not known to show any primate adaptations. The large eye sockets of this species and grasping hands and feet suggest that Carpolestes was an arboreal feeder.
